Speaking and Communication Skills Keynotes & Virtual Workshops

Thanks Tyrone! Building Powerful Business Relationships in a Culturally Diverse Society was a huge hit! Everyone really enjoyed the presentation and we all learned something new about L.U.C.A.S. and the S.O.L.E.R. Technique that we can use at work and home. I’m going to recommend you to Garland Preddy, Education Coordinator at the National SGMP Headquarters. SGMPAZ appreciates your time and knowledge shared at today’s meeting. This is a topic that we all need to work on and you provided some excellent communication tools for us to implement. I will definitely be more aware of the “noise” concept.

Difficult People and Uncomfortable Conversations

Perhaps you have a coworker you really dislike, but now you must have a conversation with that person. Perhaps you’re about to have a discussion with someone whose values are significantly different from your own. Perhaps you must give feedback to a sometimes annoying and frequently underperforming employee. These are all examples of uncomfortable conversations and what makes them uncomfortable, is that they raise or are likely to raise the volume of EMOTIONAL NOISE experienced by the participants. This highly interactive session describes specific steps you can take before and during a difficult conversation to lower the volume of emotional noise and facilitate a successful uncomfortable conversation. Because of this session, you will be able to:
  • Define emotional noise and describe how this noise makes conversations more uncomfortable.
  • Define uncomfortable conversations and apply specific actions we can take to manage these conversations more effectively. This includes the effective use of skills such as active listening and empathy.
  • Use a 3-step feedback model to give and receive constructive, behavior-focused feedback.

Building Powerful CONNECTIONS® in Diverse Organizations

America is one of the most culturally diverse societies on earth. Whether it is based on race, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, physical ability or communication style, you are more likely than ever to find yourself in a diverse organizational setting. While this diversity offers many benefits, it can also create barriers that inhibit the development of personal and professional relationships. This highly interactive session will teach you how to overcome these barriers with The L.U.C.A.S. Approach®. Specifically, because of this presentation, you will be able to:
  • Describe the 4 types of noise (internal, external, emotional and cultural) and the impact each has on communication.
  • Apply the 5 elements of The L.U.C.A.S. Approach®, which is an empathy-based communication process.
  • Apply skills such as the S.O.L.E.R. technique, active listening, clarification, self-disclosure, metacommunication and inclusive language to reduce noise and enhance your ability to powerfully connect with a diverse group of people.
