CONNECTIONS is a series of 4 to 8-hour training and coaching programs geared toward the development of multicultural communication competencies. It is a skills-based series designed to improve your ability to effectively communicate with a diverse array of individuals and to efficiently resolve a wide variety of conflicts. CONNECTIONS will help your organization improve workforce quality, enhance individual and team performance, increase market sensitivity, reduce bias and improve employer-employee relations. The five CONNECTIONS program modules include Building Powerful Relationships, The Diversity Competencies, Managing and Resolving Conflict, Service Excellence in Diverse Settings and CONNECTIONS for Teams.
Building Powerful Relationships
This skills-based workshop enhances your ability to effectively communicate across cultural differences. During this session, you will assess your communication and work style preferences, and identify how these preferences impact your interaction with others. You will also learn how to effectively handle common multicultural communication problems, and eliminate words, gestures and phrases that can hinder communication. Most significantly, you will have an opportunity to practice using the L.U.C.A.S. multicultural communication process (click here for Dr. Holmes article, 3 Barriers to Effective Communication in Our Culturally Diverse Society).
The Diversity Competencies
This highly interactive workshop introduces the 8 competencies needed for effective performance in diverse settings. Utilizing the Empowering Diversity Inventory, you are able to assess your strengths and weaknesses regarding these competencies, and create plans for personal development. We examine the impact that differences have on human interaction, and how we can resolve the problems that occur in diverse organizational settings. In addition, you will gain a greater understanding of bias and how we can minimize its impact on human communication.
Managing and Resolving Conflict
This skills-based workshop will help you become more effective at managing and resolving a wide variety of conflicts. Using the Conflict Resolution Inventory, you will learn about your preferred conflict resolution style and the multiple strategies that exist for effectively managing conflict and disagreement. In addition, we will discuss the cultural dimensions of conflict and provide you with an opportunity to practice the conflict resolution strategies (click here for Dr. Holmes' article, 10 Ways to Reduce Conflict in Your Organization).
Service Excellence in Diverse Settings
This interactive workshop will enhance your ability to identify and effectively address the needs and desires of a diverse array of customers. You will learn how to apply the L.U.C.A.S approach to service excellence, use the 3 C's of Customer Service, and apply 5 skills that improve the quality of communication and service with culturally different customers. In addition, you will learn how to apply a variety of techniques and strategies for dealing with difficult customers.
CONNECTIONS for Teams
At the heart of CONNECTIONS is our attempt to help people become more effective at communication and human interaction. This is particularly important in a group setting because so many organizations employ team-based approaches to facilitate work processes and activities. To support your teams in this area, our CONNECTIONS for Teams workshop will help you assess the current status and functioning of your group, identify team strengths and weaknesses, and take steps to improve team effectiveness (click here for Dr. Holmes' article, The 10 Characteristics of a High-Performance Work Team).
